Rumors of Kim Jong Un’s death are spreading across social media, surprising those of us who considered him a bastion of health. Due to the weight, cigarettes, and tremendous guilt of starving hundreds of thousands, Kim’s body failed him as he suffered a brain hemorrhage over the weekend.

Note that this is still only rumored, not confirmed. Kim Jong Un has a long history of fake deaths (I think I remember one when I was in middle school?) that haven’t been substantial. Also rumored and not confirmed, is that his sister, Kim Yo Jong, has seized power of the regime rather than his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, who was believed to be his successor.

While I doubt many in the Western world are heartbroken by this rumor, this does cause some important changes on the global stages. Jong Un was unmistakably a horror, but at least he was a known one. After becoming caricatured in American culture because of parodies like The Interview, Kim became more despised than feared. Now we me must adjust to how his successor reacts, which already seems aggressive.

Another silver lining to this death of a tyrant is that North Korea may now ironically lead the world in feminist activism by providing the word’s first female supreme leader. Better than President or Prime Minister right? Joan of Arc, Susan B. Anthony, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Kim Yo Jong.
